KATHMANDU: CPN-UML Secretary Yogesh Bhattarai has proposed a restructuring of the party leadership to strengthen unity and address the current political crisis. He shared his proposal on Facebook on Wednesday, urging party members to approach the task cautiously.
“Let us reorganize the party structure and leadership in a new way. This must be done carefully to preserve our party’s unity,” Bhattarai wrote.
Addressing party leaders and cadres, he highlighted that the party is facing one of the most serious crises in its history and warned that the country and society are in a state of severe instability. “We are all under immense pressure. Decisions made in haste or anger will not lead us to the right path,” he said.
Bhattarai also presented a 10-point proposal aimed at party and national reconstruction:
- Analyze recent developments carefully and review our shortcomings; be self-critical of mistakes.
- Reorganize the party structure and leadership cautiously to ensure unity.
- Ensure engagement and ownership of all party members.
- Make all internal party processes fully transparent and democratic.
- Go to the people, listen to them, and make decisions accordingly.
- Uphold democracy, multi-party competition, human rights, press freedom, constitutional supremacy, and rule of law without veering left or right.
- Rise from the ashes to rebuild the country, coordinating with all committed to Nepal’s interests.
- Strengthen unity among the mountains, hills, Terai, and all ethnic, caste, and linguistic groups.
- Reach internal consensus based on constitutional and democratic values, and appeal to the international community for support.
- Support and implement the Gen Z movement’s demands to end corruption and injustice to safeguard Nepal and its identity.
Bhattarai’s proposal comes amid escalating protests and political instability in the country, signaling a push for internal reform and a renewed focus on party and national reconstruction.
