KATHMANDU: As part of a special security strategy implemented in response to the ongoing Gen-Z protests, the Nepali Army has arrested 26 individuals involved in looting activities since Tuesday night.
According to the Army, these individuals exploited the unrest to engage in criminal acts such as looting, arson, and vandalism. The arrests were made in Kathmandu and Bhaktapur, with five people taken into custody for their involvement in looting a bank in New Baneshwor, and 21 others apprehended in connection with incidents in the Bouddha area of both districts.
The Army emphasized that it initiated this action after certain groups hijacked the peaceful protest movement and began carrying out unlawful acts. It has urged the public to remain vigilant and actively support efforts to maintain law and order.
To enhance public safety, the Nepali Army has requested citizens to report any destructive or anarchic activities by sending information via SMS, WhatsApp, or Viber to the Army’s dedicated mobile number: 9863029029.
The Army has also called on local communities to take the initiative in monitoring suspicious activities, sharing accurate information, and working collectively to safeguard their neighborhoods until security personnel arrive.
In light of misinformation being circulated on social media, the Army has cautioned the public against believing or spreading unverified or exaggerated content. It has urged everyone to rely on credible sources and communicate only factual information.
The Army reassured citizens that it, along with other security forces, is working around the clock to restore peace and stability. It reiterated that citizen awareness, community cooperation, and the free flow of accurate information are essential in such challenging times.
The Nepali Army concluded by expressing confidence that unity among communities and timely public support will play a key role in overcoming the current crisis and ensuring national security.
