11 Indian nationals arrested with 6.4 kg of illegal gold in Pokhara



KASKI: Police in Pokhara have arrested 11 Indian nationals with 6.4 kilograms of illegal gold. The individuals, originally from Maharashtra and West Bengal, were residing in various parts of Pokhara and were made public following their arrest on Saturday.

Superintendent of Police Shyambabu Oliya, Chief of the District Police Office, informed that Rs. 514,000 in cash was also recovered during the operation.

Acting on a tip-off regarding illegal gold and silver trading in Pokhara Metropolitan City Wards 2, 3, 4, and 9, police conducted targeted raids that led to the arrests.

The arrested individuals have been identified as Rajendra Ramchandra Jagtap (41), Sunita Pawar (40), Maniklal Adak (45), Asit Bar (35), Tapas Samanta (44), Ujjwal Bhomik (38), Sandeep Dhawan (35), Somnath Pal (41), Deepak Samanta (47), Govinda Dinda (47), and Provas Majhi (49).

Police also confiscated 444 tolas of silver along with the gold. The market value of the seized gold alone is estimated at Rs. 111 million.

According to police, the arrested individuals, along with the confiscated gold, silver, and cash, will be handed over to the Revenue Investigation Office in Butwal for further investigation and legal action.
