KATHMANDU: Nepal’s Cricket World Cup League 2 campaign in Scotland has been hit with a double blow as all-rounder Gulshan Kumar Jha and bowler Sompal Kami have both sustained injuries.

The Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN) confirmed that both players were injured during practice sessions for their final ODI match in Scotland against the Netherlands on Tuesday.

Sompal Kami suffered an injury to his right hand, while Gulshan Jha sustained a knee injury. As a result, both players will miss the crucial match against the Netherlands and will also be sidelined for all matches in the upcoming T20I Tri-Series.

Nepal has been in strong form during the ongoing series in Scotland. They secured a victory in one of their two matches against Scotland and also defeated the Netherlands in an earlier encounter. In League 2, Nepal currently sits in seventh place with 10 points from 15 matches.

The match against the Netherlands is scheduled for 3:45 pm today. The Netherlands, currently in second place with 26 points from 22 matches, has faced three consecutive defeats recently. The USA leads the table with 28 points from 20 matches.

Nepal has had a thrilling series thus far. They secured a sensational one-wicket victory over Scotland with one ball to spare in their opening match. In the second match against Scotland, Nepal narrowly missed out on a win, falling short by two runs while chasing 324, scoring 321. They then clinched a five-wicket victory over the Netherlands with 17 balls remaining in their previous fixture.

Eight teams are currently competing in League 2, which serves as a qualification series for the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup in 2027.
