Nepal beat Kuwait by six wickets

HONG KONG: Nepal registered a commanding six-wicket victory over Kuwait in the ongoing T20I quadrangular-series in Hong Kong, moving a step closer to securing a spot in the final.

After winning the toss, Nepal opted to bowl first. Kuwait got off to a solid start with openers Ravija Sandaruwan and Clinto Anto putting up a 43-run stand. Anto anchored the innings with a steady 41, while Meet Bhavsar added a fluent 35 to take Kuwait to a competitive total of 185 runs at the end of their 20 overs.

Nepal’s bowlers made crucial breakthroughs to stem Kuwait’s momentum, with pacer Sompal Kami starring with the ball. Kami turned the match on its head by taking three wickets, including two in a single over. Nandan Yadav chipped in with two wickets, while Lalit Rajbanshi and Kushal Bhurtel took one apiece.

In response, Nepal’s chase was powered by a sensational opening partnership. Kushal Bhurtel smashed 81 off just 50 deliveries, while Aasif Sheikh provided steady support with 53 off 38 balls. The duo stitched together a 127-run stand, laying a strong foundation for the chase.

Despite a couple of quick wickets in the middle, Nepal’s batting depth shone through, with Dipendra Singh Airee finishing the match in style. His blistering 31 off just 12 balls ensured Nepal crossed the target with ease.

With this win, Nepal are all but assured of a place in the final scheduled for Sunday. However, they will play their final group match against hosts Hong Kong on Saturday.
