Nepal sends 27 tons of earthquake relief materials to Myanmar

KATHMANDU: Nepal has dispatched approximately 27 tons of relief materials to Myanmar in response to the devastating 7.7 magnitude earthquake that struck the country on March 28, claiming over 3,000 lives.

A 16-member delegation, including senior officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and journalists, departed for Myanmar on Wednesday to deliver the aid. The team is scheduled to formally hand over the relief materials to representatives of the Myanmar government on Thursday morning.

Tapas Adhikari, Joint Secretary and Head of the Southeast Asia Division at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, said the assistance includes food, medicines, and other essential supplies requested by Myanmar. “We coordinated closely with the Myanmar government and provided the relief based on their urgent needs,” Adhikari said.

The relief materials were collected through the joint efforts of Nepal’s government and private sector. This is part of Nepal’s broader humanitarian support initiative to assist countries in crisis.

Earlier this week, a medical team from the Nepali Army had already been deployed to Myanmar to aid in emergency response and medical care for earthquake survivors.
