KATHMANDU: The Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP) has paid a fine of Rs 100,000 to the Kathmandu Metropolitan City for violating municipal regulations during a demonstration to welcome former King Gyanendra Shah.
Spokesperson Gyanendra Shahi of the party paid the fine and shared a photo of the payment on social media, expressing the party’s acceptance of the fine.
“We, the RPP, believe in good governance and the rule of law. The millions of parents and brothers and sisters who came to welcome the king must have stepped on something on the road while walking. We accept the decision of the metropolitan municipality,” said Shahi.
The Kathmandu Metropolitan City had fined the RPP for littering and damaging railings during the demonstration.
Although the demonstration also involved other monarchist groups, including RPP Nepal and monarchist activist Durga Prasai, the fine was imposed solely on the Rajendra Lingden-led RPP.
