Protest against Pathibhara cable car resumes after failed talks with Government

The group opposing the construction of a cable car at Pathibhara has announced a fresh round of protests after failing to reach an agreement with the government.

Talks held on Saturday and Sunday did not yield a resolution, prompting the protest group to declare a new agitation from Lalitpur on Monday. The movement is jointly organized by Mukkumlung Tangsech Chumbo and 11 affiliated organizations, along with 10 inter-party political groups.

At a press conference in Lalitpur, the protesters announced a series of demonstrations starting from February 11  to February 21. They plan to boycott Global IME Bank and the IME Group, led by Chandra Dhakal, from January 12. They also announced a protest march, ‘Mukkumlung Bachau Padyatra,’ from February 18 to 20.

CIAA observing 34th anniversary today

The Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA), established to fight corruption, is marking its 34th anniversary today.

The celebration is taking place at the CIAA’s Tangal office, featuring special programs aimed at promoting good governance.

CIAA Secretary Ghanshyam Upadhyay announced that President Ramchandra Paudel has been invited to be the chief guest at today’s event.

Prachanda accuses PM Oli of undermining constitution and democratic gains

Maoist Center Chair Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ has accused Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli of seeking to dismantle Nepal’s current constitution and undermine democratic achievements.

Speaking to media persons at Janakpur Airport on Monday, Dahal alleged that Oli’s actions, including the dissolution of Parliament twice during his previous tenure, signaled an intent to repeal the constitution.

“He (Oli) wants all the achievements gained through the movement to be ruined and the constitution itself to be abolished,” Dahal said.

Amaresh Kumar Singh condemns KMC’s raid on scrap businesses, likens Balen to Hitler

Independent Member of Parliament Dr Amaresh Kumar Singh has strongly criticized Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) Mayor Balen Shah, likening him to Adolf Hitler over a recent raid on scrap businesses in Teku.

Speaking during an emergency session of parliament on Monday, Singh condemned the city’s actions, accusing Balen of using force against workers in a manner reminiscent of Nazi rule.

“Nazism was once imposed in Germany by Hitler. Now, scrap businesses in Kathmandu are being crushed under dozers,” Singh said. “Three workers have been seriously injured in the raid, including Muslims and Madhesis. Ranjan Rauniyar from Rautahat is in critical condition at the Trauma Center.”

Contempt of Court case against Prime Minister over Giribandhu case

A contempt of court case has been filed against Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli, accusing him of obstructing the implementation of a Supreme Court mandamus related to the Giribandhu Tea Estate case in Jhapa.

Advocate Om Prakash Aryal registered the case, alleging that the Prime Minister brought a land-related ordinance to prevent the execution of the Supreme Court’s constitutional bench order issued last year on February 7.

In the petition, Aryal has also named Minister for Land Management and Poverty Alleviation Balram Acharya as a respondent. He has demanded that the court issue an order for Prime Minister Oli’s removal from office.

NA passes Media Council Bill

A session of the National Assembly today passed the ‘Media Council Bill-2080 BS’.

Minister for Communications and Information Technology, Prithvi Subba Gurung, proposed the meeting to endorse the Bill with report of the Committee for Legislation Management and his proposal was endorsed unanimously.

Prior to this, responding to lawmakers’ concerns over the Bill, the Minister said the Bill which was discussed long in the Committee and endorsed there before tabling at the NA aimed to making the Media Council more autonomous.
