Prachanda accuses PM Oli of undermining constitution and democratic gains

KATHMANDU: Maoist Center Chair Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ has accused Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli of seeking to dismantle Nepal’s current constitution and undermine democratic achievements.

Speaking to media persons at Janakpur Airport on Monday, Dahal alleged that Oli’s actions, including the dissolution of Parliament twice during his previous tenure, signaled an intent to repeal the constitution.

“He (Oli) wants all the achievements gained through the movement to be ruined and the constitution itself to be abolished,” Dahal said.

Dahal also criticized the current government’s ordinance on land issues, calling it procedurally flawed and misguided in intent. He argued that the ordinance lacked support in the National Assembly and expressed confidence that it would not be passed. Additionally, he urged the Janata Samajwadi Party (JSP) Nepal not to support the ordinance.

“The ordinance has been stalled in the House without being presented. The government brought it with the wrong intention,” he said.

Dahal further claimed that the current administration was unconstitutional from the outset and had violated democratic principles.

“There was never much hope from this government. It was formed by violating the constitution. In a parliamentary democracy, the first and second parties do not come together to form a government. This contradicts the democratic spirit of Nepal,” he said.
