UML leaders reach out to parties ahead of 11th General Convention inauguration

KATHMANDU: Leaders of the Nepal Communist Party (UML) are actively reaching out to various parties to invite them to the inaugural session of the party’s 11th General Convention.

On Tuesday, UML leaders Mahesh Bartaula and Secretary Raghubir Mahaseth visited Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba at his residence to extend an invitation. Deuba, sources said, has assured that he will attend the session if his health permits.

Sources indicate that if Deuba is unable to attend, acting Nepali Congress President Purna Bahadur Khadka is likely to represent the party at the convention.

UML is inviting parties both represented and not represented in the Parliament to the General Convention. The party plans to invite DP Aryal, acting president of the Rastriya Swatantra Party, to attend the inauguration session.

While all established parties are being extended invitations, sources say UML will not invite newer parties. The ruling party will exclude invitations to parties such as Ujyalo Nepal led by Kulman Ghising, Shram Sanskriti Party led by Harka Sampang, and the Pragatisheel Loktantrik Party led by Janardan Sharma.

Additionally, UML is preparing to invite the Nepali Communist Party led by Pushpa Kamal Dahal (Prachanda) and Madhav Kumar Nepal. According to party sources, Bartaula and Mahaseth’s team will personally meet Prachanda to extend the invitation to his party.
