Nepal defeats Kuwait in ICC T20 World Cup Asia Qualifier



KATHMANDU: Nepal registered a commanding 58-run victory over Kuwait in the opening match of Group ‘B’ at the ICC T20 World Cup Asia and East Asia Pacific Qualifiers, held at the Oman Cricket Academy Ground 1 in Al Amerat, Oman.

Batting first after losing the toss, Nepal posted a competitive total of 141 runs for 7 wickets in the allotted 20 overs. Kushal Bhurtel top-scored with a solid 66 runs off 56 balls, including three sixes and three fours. Gulshan Jha and Dipendra Singh Airee contributed 20 runs each, while captain Rohit Paudel added 16 runs to the tally.

Kuwait was bowled out for 83 runs in 18.1 overs, falling short by 58 runs. Clint Anto was the top scorer for Kuwait with 26 runs, followed by Yasin Patel with 19.

Nepal’s bowlers delivered a disciplined performance, with Sandeep Lamichhane, Lalit Rajbanshi, and Rohit Paudel taking two wickets each. Kushal Bhurtel, Sompal Kami, and Nandan Yadav chipped in with one wicket apiece. Nepal will face Japan in their next group-stage match on Friday.
