NC President Deuba calls meeting of party office bearers

KATHMANDU: Nepali Congress (NC) President Sher Bahadur Deuba has called a meeting of party officials to finalize the agenda for the upcoming Central Committee meeting scheduled for October 12.

According to a party official, the meeting will take place today (Thursday) afternoon in Lalitpur. Deuba, who was injured during the Gen-Z protests on September 9, is currently in recovery. Meanwhile, internal discussions within the party regarding leadership transition have intensified.

Voices within the Nepali Congress are calling for Deuba to appoint an Acting President and take a leave of absence, or for the party to move toward organizing a regular general convention in the month of December.

If a regular convention is not feasible, there is growing support for a special general convention instead. General Secretaries Gagan Thapa and Bishwaprakash Sharma, in coordination with senior leader Shekhar Koirala, have been actively advocating for a special general convention.

They are reportedly collecting signatures from general convention delegates across the country to press their demand.
