Protesters storm Hilton Hotel in Kathmandu

KATHMANDU: Demonstrators attacked the Hilton Hotel in Kathmandu on Tuesday.

Witnesses reported that protesters pelted stones at the building’s glass façade before breaching the main gate and flooding into the premises.

Despite attempts by police to disperse the crowd, authorities struggled to contain the large numbers. “The mob was momentarily scattered, but they regrouped quickly,” a local resident told reporters.

Dark plumes of smoke were seen rising from the hotel grounds, though it remains unclear whether the fire was started inside the building or in the courtyard. Hundreds of protesters are still reported to be inside the premises, with tensions running high.
