Opposition demands Prime Minister Oli’s resignation

KATHMANDU: Opposition parties have jointly called for the immediate resignation of Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli, holding him accountable for the government’s harsh crackdown on peaceful demonstrators.

The decision was made during a meeting of opposition parties held Tuesday morning at the parliamentary office of the Maoist Center in Singha Durbar. The meeting was convened by Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’, leader of the main opposition party, in response to the government’s violent suppression of public protests.

“The opposition has reached a clear conclusion—Prime Minister Oli must resign immediately,” said Barshaman Pun, Deputy General Secretary of the Maoist Center, following the meeting. “He is directly responsible for the government’s brutal handling of citizens exercising their democratic rights.”

The opposition has also condemned the use of excessive force by security personnel and called for accountability at all levels of government.
