Flood destroys dam and powerhouse in Baglung



BAGLUNG: A sudden flood in the Kalung Khola River has destroyed the dam and powerhouse of the Upper Kalung Khola Small Hydropower Project located in Paiyunthanthap, Jaimini Municipality–9, Baglung.

According to local residents, the flood struck early Wednesday morning, sweeping away key infrastructure of the hydropower project.

The flood also damaged a transformer connected to the central power transmission line, resulting in a complete power outage in around 130 households in Paiyunthanthap.

In addition to infrastructure damage, two families in Khareyabot, Paiyunthanthap, have been displaced by the flood, while seven other families remain at risk due to the threat of further landslides and flooding.

Authorities are assessing the damage and monitoring the situation as the area remains vulnerable to further natural hazards.
