NC rejects opposition proposal to form probe committee on visa scam

KATHMANDU: The ruling Nepali Congress has refused to form a parliamentary investigation committee to probe alleged irregularities in the visit visa scandal and Home Minister Ramesh Lekhak’s possible involvement.

This decision was conveyed during a meeting with opposition parties on Monday, which ended without a resolution.

According to Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) acting spokesperson Manish Jha, the opposition proposed creating an all-party special committee to investigate and prevent human trafficking in Nepal, using the visit visa issue as a starting point.

However, Nepali Congress dismissed the proposal, reportedly replying that the issue was already included in its election manifesto.

RSP Chief Whip Santosh Pariyar also confirmed that the Nepali Congress rejected the idea of a parliamentary probe committee, leaving the meeting without any concrete outcome.

The meeting took place at the Federal Parliament Building in New Baneshwor and was attended by leaders from the Nepali Congress, the main opposition CPN (Maoist Centre), and the RSP.

Parliamentary proceedings remain stalled, as opposition parties continued to obstruct Sunday’s House session, forcing its postponement to 2 pm Monday.
