Riverbed extraction to be suspended in Bhimdatta Municipality

KANCHANPUR: Bhimdutta Municipality has imposed ban on the collection and extraction of river-based materials from the rivers and rivulets in its boundary.

The collection and extraction of the river-based products is to be prohibited after mid-June.

According to Mahesh Bahadur Bam, chief administrative officer of the municipality, there is a provision that prohibits the extraction of river-based materials from the first day of the month of Ashad (mid-June) to the end of the month of Bhadra (mid-September) each year, as per the Sand, Gravel, Stone, Extraction, Sale and Management Guidelines 2077 (first amendment 2079).

“Based on that legal provision, the work of collecting and extracting river materials will be banned,” he said, warning of strict action if extraction and collection work is found taking place.

There is ongoing extraction and collection of river materials from the Mahakali River and rivulets of the Chure region in the municipality.
