Weather to remain cloudy with scattered rainfall today



KATHMANDU: The Weather Forecasting Division has predicted cloudy weather and rainfall in various parts of the country today.

According to the Division, the afternoon is expected to be partly to generally cloudy in the hilly areas of the country, including Koshi Province, while the rest of the country will experience mainly clear to partly cloudy skies.

There is a possibility of light to moderate rainfall accompanied by thunder and lightning in a few places of Koshi Province, and in one or two places in the hilly areas of other provinces.

Light rain and snowfall may also occur in one or two locations in the high hills and mountainous regions.

Tonight, the hilly regions including Koshi Province will remain partly cloudy, while most other areas will be mainly clear.

Light to moderate rain with thunder and lightning is likely in one or two places in the hilly areas of Koshi, Gandaki, Karnali, and Sudurpaschim Provinces.

There is also a chance of light rain or snowfall in one or two areas of the high hills and mountains of Kosi and Gandaki Provinces.

Currently, the western and central regions of the country are under the influence of westerly and local winds, while most parts of Koshi Province are experiencing the effects of monsoon winds.

According to meteorologists, rainfall is classified based on volume received within 24 hours: less than 10 millimeters is considered light rain, 10 to 50 millimeters is moderate rain, 50 to 100 millimeters is heavy rain, 100 to 200 millimeters is very heavy rain, and more than 200 millimeters is categorized as extremely heavy rain.

In terms of coverage, if rain is expected in less than 10 percent of an area, it is described as likely in one or two places. If expected in 10 to 30 percent of the area, it is said to occur in a few places.

Rainfall in 30 to 50 percent of the area is referred to as some places, 50 to 80 percent is many places, and more than 80 percent of the area is described as most places.
