Resumption of regular flights at Gautam Buddha Int’l Airport demanded

BHAIRAHAWA: Entrepreneurs and the business community of Rupandehi have called on the concerned authorities to resume regular flights at the Bhairahawa-based Gautam Buddha International Airport.

At a press conference held today, the Siddhartha Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Rupandehi; the Siddhartha Network Rupandehi; and the Rupandehi Chamber of Commerce jointly announced a phase-wise protest program to push for the fulfillment of their demand.

Industrialists stated that they are prepared to launch a decisive joint agitation to press for the operation of regular flights at the airport. A joint protest committee has been formed under the leadership of the Siddhartha Network Rupandehi to spearhead the movement.

As part of the first phase of the protest, discussions will be held with representatives of various political parties in Rupandehi district, local government representatives, as well as members of the federal and provincial assemblies. Meetings will also be sought with the heads of concerned airlines, said Committee Coordinator and Chairperson of Siddhartha Network Rupandehi, Anil Kumar Gyawali.

Additionally, a peaceful protest is planned in front of the airport with the participation of thousands of people. The movement will also draw the attention of the Prime Minister, Minister of Tourism, Minister of Finance, Minister of Labour, Minister of Health, secretaries of relevant ministries, and the chief of Nepal Airlines Corporation, he added.
