RSP leaders to approach NHRC over Rabi Lamichhane’s arrest



KATHMANDU: Leaders of the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) are set to visit the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) on Wednesday, claiming that the arrest of party Chair Rabi Lamichhane was illegal and involved police misconduct.

According to Lamichhane’s secretariat, the delegation will reach the NHRC office in Pulchowk at 11:30 am to register their concerns.

The Tulsipur-Butwal bench of the High Court had ordered Lamichhane to be taken into custody last Friday for trial in connection with the Supreme Cooperative fraud and organized crime case. Following the court’s directive, the former Home Minister was arrested in Kathmandu the same day.

Lamichhane was initially held overnight in Kathmandu before being transferred to Rupandehi on Saturday. As the weekend included public holidays, he was produced before the District Court on Monday, which subsequently sent him to Bhairahawa Prison for judicial custody.

The RSP has condemned the arrest as unlawful and alleged that excessive force was used during the arrest.
