KATHMANDU: The Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) has filed a corruption case at the Special Court against former officials of Kalaiya Sub-metropolitan City, Bara, over irregularities in the procurement of sanitary pads.

The case involves the purchase of sanitary pads during the fiscal years 2021/22 and 2022/23, with the contract rate fixed at Rs 79.1 per packet. The CIAA claims the procurement process was manipulated for personal gain, resulting in financial losses to the state.

The accused include the then Chief Administrative Officer Prahlad Prasad Barnawal, Education Officer Bijay Adhikari, Chief of Sales Rajesh Thakur, and Accounts Officer Divya Saraf. The CIAA has demanded compensation of Rs 5.19 million from each of them.

In addition, similar claims have been made against Sagar Devi Pharma Hetauda and its operator Bimlesh Sah, who is accused of colluding with government officials to obtain illegal benefits.

CIAA spokesperson Rajendra Kumar Poudel stated that legal action has been initiated against all involved under anti-corruption laws, with compensation claims reflecting the estimated financial damage.
