KATHMANDU: Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP) Chief Whip Gyanendra Shahi has urged Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli to personally go to Tribhuvan International Airport and welcome former King Gyanendra Shah, who is returning to Kathmandu from Pokhara today.
In a social media post, Shahi questioned the government’s stance on welcoming former monarchs, asking why the King of Nepal should not receive the same respect as the King of Qatar.
He wrote, “I sincerely appeal and request the Honorable Prime Minister to go to the Kathmandu Airport today to welcome the King. Why not welcome the King of Nepal, as the Prime Minister should welcome the King of Qatar?”
Shahi further emphasized that the government should not try to limit or restrict the aspirations and wishes of the people. His statement comes ahead of the royalist rallies planned in support of the former king upon his arrival in Kathmandu.
