Kathmandu on high alert as royalist groups plan mass rally for Gyanendra Shah’s return

KATHMANDU: As former King Gyanendra Shah returns to Kathmandu after a month-long stay in Pokhara, royalist parties, including the Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP), have organized a mass rally to welcome him back to the capital.

In anticipation of the demonstration, security in Kathmandu has been heightened, with personnel placed on high alert across sensitive areas. These include key locations such as the Narayanhiti Palace Museum and Tribhuvan International Airport.

Royalists are preparing for a procession that will converge near the entrance of Tribhuvan International Airport to greet the former monarch.

Authorities have ensured that sufficient security personnel will be deployed to maintain order, with all four security agencies on standby. Intelligence teams, both in uniform and plain clothes, have been stationed at various key intersections throughout Kathmandu since this morning to monitor the situation closely.
