Prime Minister Oli rejects “People’s War” day label, stresses importance of Democracy Day
Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has expressed concerns over some individuals referring to violence as “People’s War” Day, emphasizing that such a label undermines the significance of Democracy Day.
Speaking at a meeting to discuss this year’s Democracy Day celebrations, PM Oli urged the nation to commemorate the historic occasion with grandeur, highlighting the importance of acknowledging the struggle for democracy and rejecting attempts to distort its meaning.
The Prime Minister also announced plans for a series of events, including Diwali celebrations, to mark the day of national importance.
Time not ripe to assess quorum for endorsing ordinances: PM
Prime Minister KP Oli stated that it is too early to comment on whether the recently issued ordinances will be endorsed by the House.
In response to a question from journalists at the Federal Parliament Building today, he explained that the time has not yet come to assess the quorum for the endorsement of the ordinances issued by the government.
It is worth noting that the government issued six ordinances at different times before the commencement of the ongoing winter session of Parliament.
Talpejung cable car: Talks end inconclusively
The talks between the government and protesting groups over the proposed cable car project in the Pathibhara area concluded today without a resolution.
The discussions collapsed when the protest groups demanded to meet with senior political leaders, rather than continuing with the government’s designated negotiation team.
The government had established a negotiation team, headed by Joint Secretary of the Ministry of Home Affairs, Prem Prasad Bhattarai, to facilitate talks with the ‘No Cable Car’ group.
Upendra Yadav: We are positive about ordinances, not responsible for delay
Janata Samajbadi Party (JSP) Nepal Chair Upendra Yadav has denied engaging in political bargaining for joining the government.
Speaking to journalists at the Parliament building in New Baneshwor on Sunday, Yadav stated that his party is not currently in a position to join the government.
He dismissed allegations that JSP was delaying the passage of ordinances in Parliament, stating that his party is still studying the matter and will take a decision once the ordinances are formally introduced.
Social Media Bill presented in NA
The Media Council Bill, 2081 BS has been presented in the National Assembly (NA). Minister for Communications and Information Technology, Prithvi Subba Gurung tabled the Bill in the session.
Prior to this, NA Chairperson Narayan Prasad Dahal apprised the House that no notice of protest has been received regarding the Bill.
The government had on January 28 registered the document in the NA, citing it aimed to further systematise the use of social sites, making to decent and secured.
Manang wildfire not brought under control even after 10 days
The fire that broke out in Timang forest of Chame Rural Municipality-1 in the district has not been brought under control even after10 days.
The forest fire had started in the evening of January 31. The District Administration Office said they have not been able to douse the fire due to the difficult topography of the area.
Chief District Officer Matrika Acharya said all the security agencies in the district have been mobilized to contain the wildfire.
