Ishwar Pokharel submits 40-page document outlining UML’s future priorities ahead of 11th General Convention

KATHMANDU: Senior Vice-Chair Ishwar Pokharel has submitted a prepared document to General Secretary Shankar Pokharel ahead of the 11th General Convention of the Nepal Communist Party (UML). The submission comes after Party Chair KP Sharma Oli did not visit the party office in Chyasal.

Sources say Oli is currently holding discussions with party leaders at his residence in Gundu.

Alongside Ishwar Pokharel , other leaders present during the submission included Vice-Chair Surendra Pandey, Yubaraj Gyawali, Bishnu Paudel, Secretary Yogesh Bhattarai, and leader Karna Thapa.

After handing over the document, Pokharel expressed confidence that the issues and demands raised would be passed at the 11th General Convention. He also said he is assured that leadership selection will follow due process.

The 11th General Convention of UML is scheduled to begin on December 13 in Kathmandu. The convention is expected to feature a contest for the chairmanship between current Chair KP Sharma Oli and Senior Vice-Chair Ishwar Pokharel .

Pokharel claimed that he has already informed Oli about the content of the document, and the chair will study it according to relevance. A large group of leaders and party members from Pokhrel’s faction participated during the submission process.

The 40-page document outlines the current state of the party, future priorities, responsibilities of party members, and strategies for moving the party forward. It also highlights the need for youth inclusion and engagement within the party.

According to sources, Pokharel stressed that the party must take proactive steps to establish dialogue with young members. He also highlighted that discussions on leftist unity and the broader leftist movement should be conducted seriously during the convention, as these issues have been largely overlooked.

Additionally, the document calls for creating a conducive environment for former President Bidya Devi Bhandari to re-engage in party politics.
