The Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA) has dismissed reports circulating in some media outlets and on social media regarding its recent power purchase agreement for the upcoming winter season as misleading and distorted. Issuing a statement on Friday, the NEA said details of the electricity import agreement with India had been deliberately misrepresented and publicized with ill intent.

Gen-Z movement drew a ‘red line for good governance’: PM Sushila Karki

Prime Minister Sushila Karki has said that the Gen-Z movement has drawn a red line for good governance in Nepal, marking a decisive turning point for accountability and reform. Addressing the National Economic Dialogue 2.0 organized by the Federation of Nepalese Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FNCCI) on Friday, Prime Minister Karki assured that the government would leave no stone unturned in addressing the challenges faced by entrepreneurs and businesspersons.

Home Minister Om Prakash Aryal has said that those who infiltrated the Gen-Z movement and caused significant damage to the country will face strict legal action. Speaking at the National Economic Dialogue organized by the Federation of Nepalese Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FNCCI) in Kathmandu on Saturday, Minister Aryal said the infiltration during the Gen-Z movement led to major disruptions, and that the government has already begun legal proceedings against those involved.

Private sector urges government to endorse protection and promotion program

The private sector has called on the government to take special initiatives to ensure business security and endorse a comprehensive protection and promotion program. Speaking at a program organized by the Federation of Nepalese Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FNCCI) on Saturday, FNCCI President Chandra Prasad Dhakal urged the government to immediately pass the Private Sector Protection and Promotion Program (PSPPP) through the Cabinet to guarantee business security.

Madhesh CM Jitendra Sonal resigns after failing to secure vote of confidence

Chief Minister of Madhesh Province, Jitendra Sonal, has resigned from his post after realizing he would not secure a vote of confidence in the Provincial Assembly. Sonal submitted his resignation to Speaker Ram Chandra Mandal earlier today. A meeting of the Provincial Assembly had been scheduled for Saturday, where Sonal was set to seek a vote of confidence.

CIB arrests former joint secretary Karki over illegal lease of Nepal Trust land in Durbar Marg

The Central Investigation Bureau (CIB) has arrested former joint secretary Lekh Bahadur Karki for his alleged involvement in illegally leasing land registered under the Nepal Trust in Durbar Marg. According to CIB spokesperson SSP Shiv Kumar Shrestha, Karki, a resident of Bharatpur Metropolitan City–15 (formerly Sripur–2) in Chitwan, was arrested on Friday. He is being investigated on charges of fraud and criminal breach of trust.

Only one out of 30 Foreign Ministers in the past 35 years had expertise in diplomacy

 Nepal’s lack of professionalism and maturity in the field of diplomacy has been reflected in the background of those leading the Ministry of Foreign Affairs over the past 35 years, according to Dr. Hari Prakash Chand. Presenting a paper at a discussion on “Nepal’s Political System and Foreign Policy After the GenZ Movement” organized by the International Relations Concern Community Nepal at Tribhuvan University, Kirtipur, Dr. Chand revealed that the majority of Nepal’s foreign ministers lacked academic or professional expertise in international affairs.

Directly elected executive does not guarantee stability: Former Chief Secretary Poudel

Former Chief Secretary and ex-Ambassador to China, Leelamani Poudel, has said that the belief that a directly elected executive system can ensure political stability in Nepal is misleading. Speaking at a seminar titled “Nepal’s Political System and Foreign Policy after the Gen-Z Movement” organized by the International Relations Concern Group Nepal, Poudel argued that such a system could instead create serious problems in a country like Nepal.

Madhesh border points with Bihar to remain closed for 72 hours ahead of Indian state elections

Eleven border points connecting Nepal’s Mahottari district with India’s Bihar state have been closed for 72 hours in view of the upcoming Bihar Assembly elections scheduled for next Tuesday. According to Mahottari Chief District Officer Indra Dev Yadav, the closure came into effect from 6 PM today and will remain in force until 6 PM on November 11, coinciding with the second phase of Bihar’s state assembly elections.

Chandragiri Cable Car reopens after two-month closure

The Chandragiri Cable Car and Bhaleshwar Temple have resumed operations from Saturday, following repair and maintenance work after the damage caused during the GenZ movement on September 9. The service had remained closed for nearly two months due to vandalism during the protests. With the reopening, visitors and devotees have started returning to Chandragiri to visit the Bhaleshwar Temple.

Nepal calls for joint action, climate justice, and urgent global cooperation

Nepal has urged the global community to work together for climate justice and a sustainable future, calling for immediate and collective action to address the climate crisis. The appeal was made during the Leader’s Summit held on November 5–6 ahead of the 30th Conference of Parties (COP-30) to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change. Tanahun District Office sets daily quota of 40 passports

Currently, the office is operating with only one functional workstation provided by the Department of Passports. As a result, the office has decided to open an online quota of 40 passport applications every Friday from 10:30 a.m. for the upcoming week.

Flood and landslide damage prompts Rs 3.78 billion in insurance claims

Insurance companies have received claims worth Rs 3.78 billion for damages caused by the floods and landslides in October, according to the Insurance Board (Beema Samiti). Continuous rainfall between October 3 and 5 led to widespread property losses across several districts. The authority reported receiving a total of 434 insurance claim applications related to the disaster.
