KATHMANDU: CPN-UML Chair and former Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli held a virtual meeting on Monday with all UML district chairpersons across the country.
During the discussion, Oli said that this is not an appropriate time for leadership change, emphasizing that the Central Committee’s decision would be final on any such matter.
According to Bimal Sapkota, UML’s district chair from Panchthar, the district leaders described the ongoing Gen-Z movement as positive in spirit but expressed serious concern over the infiltration of external forces that led to loss of life and property.
“We do not disagree with the demands raised by the Gen-Z protesters,” Sapkota said. “But both national and international elements have interfered in it. This needs a thorough review. The country seems to be heading toward instability, so proper investigation is necessary.”
He added that Oli told the leaders, “I haven’t decided to step down. I will follow whatever the Central Committee decides. If the situation demands, I am ready to step down—but only after fully understanding the circumstances.”
Oli also urged district leaders to move forward with a clear understanding of the current political situation.
