19 dead, over 300 injured in Gen Z protests in Kathmandu



KATHMANDU: Violent protests by Gen Z on Monday have left 19 people dead and more than 300 injured. The injured are receiving treatment at hospitals including the National Trauma Center, Bir Hospital, Civil Hospital, Kathmandu Medical College, and Vinayak Hospital.

According to available information, deaths have been reported at the following hospitals: three at Nijamati Hospital, eight at the National Trauma Center, three at Everest Hospital, two at Kathmandu Medical College, one at Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital, and two at BP Koirala Institute of Health Sciences, Dharan.

Police have stated that 22 of the injured are in critical condition. The National Trauma Center is currently treating more than 60 injured, with crowds of relatives and friends gathered outside. Eight deaths have occurred so far at the Trauma Center alone.

Dr. Badri Rizal, Chief Medical Superintendent at the Trauma Center, said many of the injured have wounds to the abdomen, head, chest, and limbs. He added that it will only be clear whether there are bullet injuries after further examination.

The Ministry of Health has directed hospitals to provide free treatment to all the injured, which is currently being implemented. Dr. Rizal said most of the patients are aged between 15–16 and 30–35 years.
