19 dead, over 300 injured in Gen Z protests in Kathmandu
Violent protests by Gen Z on Monday have left 19 people dead and more than 300 injured. The injured are receiving treatment at hospitals including the National Trauma Center, Bir Hospital, Civil Hospital, Kathmandu Medical College, and Vinayak Hospital. According to available information, deaths have been reported at the following hospitals: three at Nijamati Hospital, eight at the National Trauma Center, three at Everest Hospital, two at Kathmandu Medical College, one at Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital, and two at BP Koirala Institute of Health Sciences, Dharan.
Nepali Army deployed as Gen-Z protest turns violent in New Baneshwor
Security forces have deployed the army in New Baneshwor after a Gen-Z protest escalated into violence. Earlier, the Kathmandu District Administration Office had imposed a curfew in New Baneshwor, Bijulibazar, and Central Baneshwor areas. Police reportedly fired shots at protesters when the demonstration went out of control, injuring several participants.
Curfew imposed in Kathmandu’s Baneshwor area
A curfew order has been imposed in the Baneshwor area of Kathmandu, effective from 12:30 noon to 10:00 PM today. The order was issued by Chief District Officer Chhabilal Rijal. According to the District Administration Office (DAO), the curfew was enforced following the “infiltration” of interest groups in the ‘Gen G’ demonstration.
Gen Z protestors enter Parliament Building in New Baneshwor
Gen Z protestors have entered the Federal Parliament building in New Baneswor after breaking through a police cordon. They climbed over the main gate and forced their way into the premises, breaching security barriers. In response, police are currently using tear gas in an effort to control the situation.
Gen-Z protesters attack PM Oli’s residence in Damak
Members of the Gen-Z movement reportedly attacked the residence of Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli in Damak on Monday, amid ongoing protests across Jhapa. Police had established tight security around the Prime Minister’s home in Ward No. 9 of Damak Municipality. According to UML Jhapa District Chair Prem Giri, the attack caused minimal damage due to heightened security. “They attempted to breach, but no significant harm occurred. Security measures are currently reinforced in Damak,” Giri said.
Curfew imposed in Bhairahawa and Butwal, Rupandehi
The District Administration Office of Rupandehi has imposed a curfew in Bhairahawa and Butwal amid escalating Gen-Z protests. The curfew will be in effect on Monday from 4:00 PM to 10:00 PM. In Bhairahawa, the restricted area covers from Rohini Khola Bridge in the east to Bethari Bridge in the west, Buddha Chowk in the north, and Meudihawa in the south, according to Chief District Officer Tokaraj Pandey.
Constitutional expert Acharya: government has lost moral right to rule amid Gen-Z protests
Constitutional expert and analyst Bhimarjun Acharya has said the government’s handling of the Gen-Z protests reflects “the height of incompetence,” adding that it no longer holds the moral right to remain in power. Speaking to Khabarhub, Acharya argued that the government should step aside. “This is extremely concerning. It is the peak of incompetence. They have no right to stay in power or call themselves rulers anymore. They must vacate and make way,” he said.
Nepali Congress calls emergency meeting
The Nepali Congress (NC) has called an emergency meeting today. Party President Sher Bahadur Deuba scheduled the meeting for 5 PM, according to Chief Secretary Krishna Prasad Poudel. Earlier today, Gen-Z protesters demonstrated in Kathmandu and several other cities across the country, voicing strong opposition to the social media ban and widespread corruption.

Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) lawmaker Sobita Gautam has strongly criticized the government, accusing it of killing the nation’s future by using guns against demonstrators. In a social media post, she said the government had many alternatives to disperse protesters but chose to fire directly.
Authorities enforce prohibitory orders in Pokhara after Gen-Z protest
The District Administration Office, Kaski, has declared parts of Pokhara a prohibited zone after Gen-Z protests in the city turned unruly. According to Chief District Officer Rudradevi Sharma, the restricted order took effect from 2 p.m. on Monday and will remain in place until further notice. The area under restriction covers Wychowk to the east, Milan Chowk to the northeast, Fiste Gate (Baidaam) to the west, the Land Revenue Office to the north, and extends south to Rastra Bank Chowk, including the Tourism Board office area at Damside.
Health Ministry orders free treatment for protest victims in federal hospitals
The Ministry of Health and Population has directed all federal hospitals to provide free treatment to those injured in Monday’s Gen-Z protests. Korala border point with China fully opens for trade
The Korala border point in Mustang, which connects Nepal with the Tibet Autonomous Region of China, has come into full operation from Sunday, according to the Mustang Customs Office. Although the checkpoint had been open year-round only for residents of Upper Mustang since November 13, 2023, it is now fully operational for trade purposes. To expand Korala as a commercial route, the Customs Department has transferred Ramesh Khadka as Chief of the Mustang Customs Office.
Gold prices down Rs 400
The price of gold has gone down by Rs 400 per tola on Monday. According to the Federation of Nepal Gold and Silver Dealers’ Association, the price of gold has been set at Rs 211,600 per tola.
TU opens vacancy for nearly 300 assistant professors in 47 Subjects
Tribhuvan University (TU) Service Commission has announced vacancies for nearly 300 assistant professor positions through open competition. Applications have been invited for posts in 47 subjects. The highest number of vacancies is in Management, with 91 positions. This is followed by Law (33), Economics (18), English (14), Nepali (13), Computer Application (12), and Nepali Education (10). Vacancies in other subjects remain in single digits.
