Gen Z youth launch protest against corruption and nepotism in Kathmandu

KATHMANDU: Members of Nepal’s Generation Z, defined as those born between 1997 and 2012, have begun a protest at Maitighar against corruption and nepotism.

The youths, who had been calling for demonstrations through social media in recent days, gathered at Maitighar this morning with placards and slogans. The protest is also aimed at highlighting frustrations with systemic inefficiency and lack of accountability in governance.

Organizers said the rally would march from Maitighar between 9 a.m. and 11 a.m. before concluding at Baneshwor, a key political hub.

This is among the first visible street demonstrations led by Nepal’s Gen Z, who are increasingly using both digital platforms and public spaces to voice demands for transparency and reform.
