Bamka market fire: Committee formed under Mayor Baniya to distribute relief

BAJURA: Budhiganga Municipality has adopted a one-door system to distribute relief and support the rehabilitation of victims affected by the recent fire at Bamka market.

The fire, which started at Nawadurga Hotel last Friday due to a gas cylinder leak, destroyed 31 shops and caused damages estimated at over Rs 150 million.

An 11-member committee has been formed under the coordination of Budhiganga Municipality Mayor Ram Bahadur Baniya to oversee the distribution of relief.

The committee was established following a joint meeting on Saturday between Budhiganga Municipality and Triveni Municipality, informed Hemraj Jaishi, Chairperson of Budhiganga-6. Members include Triveni Municipality Mayor Karna Bahadur Thapa, Deputy Mayor Kamala Jaishi (Newpan), and Budhiganga Municipality Deputy Mayor Maya Khadka (Kunbar).

The meeting resolved to appeal to all levels of government—local, provincial, and federal—as well as various organizations for support in relief and rehabilitation efforts, said Mayor Thapa.

Meanwhile, Budhinanda Municipality has contributed Rs 100,000 in cash to support the victims. Budhinanda Mayor Bohara handed over the amount to the committee coordinator, Mayor Baniya, said Ward Chair Jaishi.

Mayor Bohara emphasized the importance of inter-municipal cooperation during disasters and stressed the need for all local levels to contribute during times of crisis.
