Monarchy cannot be alternative to republic: Minister Lekhak

DOTI: Minister for Home Affairs Ramesh Lekhak ruled out monarchy as an alternative to republic system.

Minister Lekhak delivered this remark in a press meet organized by Nepal Press Union here while heading to Achham district to inaugurate the Earthquake Reconstruction and Rehabilitation Project Implementation Unit Office.

Lekhak reiterated, “The way monarchy cannot be replaced by republic, democracy cannot be substituted with autocracy.”

On a different note, he challenged the former monarch to engage in politics and contest election openly if he was yearning for ruling people.

On the context of constitution amendment, he mentioned that the groundwork to it was underway.

The Minister explained that homework was being carried out as per the agreement made between Nepali Congress and CPN UML prior to the formation of incumbent government to form a task force to amend the constitution.

He, however, assured the constitution would be revised on the consensus of all.
