Fire breaks out at Ministry of Water Supply in Singha Durbar
A fire broke out at the Ministry of Water Supply in Singha Durbar this morning.
According to Singha Durbar police, the fire started on the fourth floor of the Ministry of Water Supply and Sanitation at 7:45 am.
Police have stated that efforts are underway to control the blaze with the assistance of fire engines.
Int’l Human Rights Organizations urge Nepal to suspend Pathibhara Cable Car project
The International Network for Economic, Social, and Cultural Rights (ESCR-Net), a coalition of over 300 organizations, has called on the Nepal government to immediately halt the Pathibhara Cable Car project in Taplejung district.
The appeal comes as tensions rise among local communities, particularly the Indigenous Limbu people, who regard the area as a sacred site.
The letter, signed by ESCR-Net Executive Director Chris Grove, expresses concern about the project’s potential violation of economic, social, and cultural rights, as well as its environmental impact, including deforestation.
Ambassador Oli makes courtesy visit to Cambodian PM
Dhan Bahadur Oli, the non-resident Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Nepal to the Kingdom of Cambodia, paid a courtesy visit to Samdech Moha Borvor Thipadei Hun Manet, the Prime Minister of Cambodia, at the Peace Palace in Phnom Penh.
During the meeting the Prime Minister congratulated ambassador Oli and expressed satisfaction on subsisting excellent bilateral relations between two countries and wishes for further strengthening the relations through activating bilateral mechanisms in pertinent areas like trade, investment and tourism.
Prime Minister assured his supports to Ambassador Oli in his all endeavors in taking the bilateral relations to a new height during his tenure as Ambassador.
Budget spending of provinces stands at 16 per cent in six months
The budget expenditure of the provinces in six months of the current fiscal year 2024/25 is disappointing.
As per the half-yearly review report released by the government, budget expenditure of the provinces is only 16.18 per cent of the annual target so far.
The province governments had brought the budget of total Rs 278.69 billion in the current fiscal year, they have spent only Rs 45.9 billion till the January 13, 2025.
Chandra Dhakal: Pathibhara cable car will create jobs for Taplejung residents
Chandra Prasad Dhakal, president of the Federation of Nepalese Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FNCCI), has stated that local residents largely support the construction of the Pathibhara Cable Car.
Speaking at a press conference organized by Pathibhara Devi Darshan Cable Car Pvt. Ltd. in Kathmandu on Saturday, Dhakal mentioned that out of 25 local representatives who spoke at a public hearing involving 300 people, only two expressed disagreement.
He emphasized that most residents of Taplejung favor the project, while opposition primarily comes from those living outside the district or abroad, who would still benefit from the development.
