PM Karki seeks former President Bhandari’s support on election bid

KATHMANDU: Prime Minister Sushila Karki has requested former President Bidya Devi Bhandari to support in creating a favourable atmosphere for the successful election on the slated date.

During a meeting held at PM Karki’s office in Singh Durbar on Sunday, PM Karki informed the former Head of State that the government was engaged in corruption control and preparation for the March 5 election to the House of Representatives. The PM sought Bhandari’s positive role in supporting government activities.

Former President Bhandari was also made aware that Karki had to take control of the situation following the Sept 8-9 Gen Z protest in the country. The government has forwarded an investigation into the incidents relating to the loss of lives and damage of property in the protest.

In response, Bhandari expressed belief that the government would be able to bring to book those responsible for the killing and destruction during the Gen Z protest. There is no alternative to the election before the government at present, so all sides, including the government need to concentrate on it, the former Head of State reminded.

Bhandari further showed confidence in the government that it could hold a free and fair election, according to PM’s secretariat.
