Elections will be held on the scheduled date: Finance Minister

KATHMANDU: Finance Minister Rameshore Khanal has reaffirmed that the House of Representatives (HoR) elections will proceed as scheduled, stressing that any delay would push the country toward uncertainty and disrupt national affairs.

He made this remark while addressing the 16th annual general meeting of the Nepal Association of Financial Journalists (NAFU) in Kathmandu on Sunday.

“Corruption has increased significantly, and it has been encouraged by powerful individuals within the state. This must stop, and service delivery must become transparent. These demands have been repeatedly raised,” Minister Khanal said.

“Postponing the elections for any reason will push the country into uncertainty and affect many national activities. Elections must be held on time under any circumstances. A positive environment is essential, and the government is committed to ensuring this.”

He added that the elections will take place on schedule with the consent of all political parties and the support of the general public. He emphasized that the elections must be conducted safely, fearlessly, impartially, and in a democratic manner, in line with the expectations of the international community.

He further stated that Nepal should continue the approach that has earned favorable evaluation from the international community. He stressed that the Government of Nepal must undertake reform efforts in the coming days to further strengthen its image.
