International Civil Aviation Day being observed today

KATHMANDU: International Civil Aviation Day is being celebrated worldwide today under the slogan “Safe Skies”, particularly among member states of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO).

The day was first observed on December 7, 1994, marking the 50th anniversary of ICAO’s establishment. Two years later, the United Nations General Assembly formally recognized the occasion.

International Civil Aviation Day honors the contribution of global air services to the social and economic development of countries and highlights ICAO’s role in creating a worldwide rapid transport network that facilitates human mobility.

ICAO has emphasized that the day is increasingly relevant today, as air services remain a key link between nations and play a vital role in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals by 2030.
