Govt must adhere to Constitution: UML Chair Oli



KATHMANDU: Chairperson of the CPN-UML and former Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has emphasized that adhering to the Constitution and acting in accordance with it is the true essence of democracy.

Speaking at an interaction with scholars organized today by the UML Central Department of Education and Human Resources, Oli said that the formation of a government under the “theory of necessity” and the subsequent dissolution of Parliament after the tenure of the Generation-Z government were both unconstitutional.

“Our party firmly believes that it is unconstitutional for a former Chief Justice to assume any executive position other than that of the National Human Rights Commission,” he stated.

Oli argued that a government cannot operate arbitrarily or unconstitutionally by disregarding the people’s legitimate mandate. He further stressed the need to reinstate the House of Representatives (HoR) as a step toward resolving the ongoing political impasse and restoring constitutional order.
