Koshi govt dispatches aid to flood and landslide victims in Ilam

MORANG: The Koshi Province Government has dispatched various relief materials to support people affected by floods and landslides in Ilam district.

According to Ram Prasad Acharya, Secretary at the Koshi Province Ministry of Internal Affairs and Law, the relief materials were transported via a Nepali Army helicopter, as road access to the affected areas is currently not feasible.

The aid includes rice, lentils, potatoes, cooking oil, salt, turmeric, and other food items, as well as blankets, pillows, mattresses, and tarpaulin sheets, said Sadananda Bhattarai, an official from the Ministry’s Disaster Management Section.

He noted that Ilam district was prioritized for aid delivery, as it was among the hardest hit by floods and landslides triggered by continuous rainfall on October 3 and 4. The relief will be distributed to families displaced by the disaster.

Areas affected include Suryodaya Municipality, Ilam Municipality, Sandakpur Rural Municipality, Mangsebung Rural Municipality, Mai Jogmai Rural Municipality, Deumai Municipality, and Phakphokthum Rural Municipality, where both loss of life and property have been reported.
