KAVREPALANCHOWK: Continuous rainfall over Friday, Saturday, and Sunday has triggered multiple landslides across Kavrepalanchowk, severely disrupting road connectivity and electricity supply in four rural municipalities.
The affected areas include Khanikhola, Mahabharat, Roshi, and Bethanchowk rural municipalities. Due to the blackout, communication services have also been interrupted in remote parts of the district, and residents are being forced to wait several days for road access to be restored.
Major roadways connecting to these rural municipalities have been blocked by landslides. While some local governments began mobilizing equipment to clear the roads on Monday, progress is slow—particularly in the remote Mahabharat mountain range (Dandapari), where access is limited and terrain is difficult.
Local representatives estimate that it could take a week or more to reopen the roads leading to Khanikhola and Mahabharat. In Mahabharat, all access roads and electricity supply lines have been completely cut off.
Rural Municipality Chairperson Kanchhalal Zimba said there is currently no alternative route into the area. He reported that several roads, including the main route to the rural municipality office, have been blocked in multiple locations.
“It may take more than a week to repair all the damaged roads. With electricity also down, we are urgently working on restoring both services,” he said.
Key road sections blocked include Chowkidanda–Sipali, Pinthali–Rajwas, Mangaltar–Dadakharka, and Piple–Bhimkhori, all of which connect to the BP Highway leading to Mahabharat.
Similarly, Chairperson Indra Bahadur Thing of Khanikhola Rural Municipality confirmed that all roads leading into the municipality are blocked. Efforts to clear the debris using heavy machinery began on Monday.
“Fuel supply is a growing concern due to the road closures. We’re trying to manage the situation,” he said, adding that manpower has also been deployed to restore electricity within the next couple of days.
In Roshi Rural Municipality, temporary road diversions along the Roshi road—previously cut by the BP Highway Project—have also collapsed, blocking access to several wards.
Chairperson Dinesh Lama said the rural municipality center will remain disconnected until the roads at Chowkidanda and Ghumaune are cleared. Electricity supply in Roshi has been partially affected, but efforts are underway to fully restore it.
Meanwhile, in Bethanchowk, local officials have been working since Sunday to reopen the main road. According to Chairperson Bhagawan Adhikari, priority has been given to clearing the primary access route, and heavy equipment has been mobilized to restore road links to other wards.
Two people have died due to the floods and landslides in the district, with significant damage reported to both public infrastructure and private property.
