Election Commission officials meet Prime Minister Karki to discuss upcoming polls

Officials from the Election Commission held a meeting with Prime Minister Sushila Karki on Tuesday to discuss preparations for the upcoming elections. The meeting, held at the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers’ Office in Singha Durbar, focused on the implementation of the election schedule and the role of the government and political parties in supporting the process. The Commission had announced the election timetable on Monday, scheduling the polls for March 5.

Balen says KMC’s fire engines couldn’t reach Singha Durbar due to obstruction by protesters

Kathmandu Metropolitan City Mayor Balen Shah has said that the city’s fire engines were unable to reach Singha Durbar on September 9 immediately after the fire broke out because protesters blocked their way. Amid widespread criticism over why the local government remained passive during the incident, Mayor Balen clarified through a Facebook post on Tuesday that the metropolis had tried to send fire engines but the demonstrators obstructed them.

Police forward complaint against KP Sharma Oli and Ramesh Lekhak to investigation commission

Members of Hami Nepal and families of those killed during the Gen-Z movement have left the Kathmandu District Police Office after submitting a complaint demanding the arrest of CPN-UML Chair KP Sharma Oli, Nepali Congress leader Ramesh Lekhak, and others. According to police officials, the complaint has been received and forwarded to the investigation commission for further action.

ANNFSU delegation reaches Kathmandu Police Range to file complaint against Balen Shah and Sudan Gurung

A team from the All Nepal National Free Students’ Union (ANNFSU), a student wing close to the CPN-UML, reached the Kathmandu District Police Range on Tuesday to file a complaint against Kathmandu Metropolitan City Mayor Balen Shah and Hami Nepal founder Sudan Gurung. ANNFSU General Secretary Deepak Dhami confirmed that the team went to the police office to register a complaint against Shah and Gurung, accusing them of involvement in vandalism, arson, and police killing during the Gen-Z movement.

World Bank projects Nepal’s economic growth to slow to 2.1 percent

The World Bank has projected Nepal’s economic growth rate to remain limited to 2.1 percent in fiscal year 2025/26. Releasing its South Asia Development Update on Tuesday, the World Bank said the recent protests in Nepal have disrupted both public and private infrastructure, leading to slower economic growth.

Search and rescue efforts for the missing to continue

The 19th meeting of the Disaster Risk Reduction Council has decided to continue search and rescue operations for those missing in recent natural disasters. The meeting directed the Ministry of Home Affairs and all security agencies to mobilize accordingly. The council also decided to coordinate with the Ministry of Physical Infrastructure and Transport, provincial governments, and local levels to reopen obstructed roads and manage disrupted transportation services.

No need to wait for commission report to investigate and take action against offenders: Inquiry Commission

The inquiry commission formed to investigate the incidents of September 8 and 9 has said that authorities do not need to wait for its report to initiate investigation and action against those involved in criminal offenses. In a statement issued on Tuesday, the commission led by Gauri Bahadur Karki clarified that the government can immediately investigate and take action against anyone involved in criminal acts without waiting for the commission’s findings.

Nepal Airlines offers free date change for passengers affected by floods

Nepal Airlines Corporation has announced that passengers whose flights were affected by floods and landslides between October 4 and 7 can change their travel dates free of charge. In a notice issued on Tuesday, the corporation stated that passengers unable to travel due to the natural disaster are eligible for a one-time complimentary date change.

Gen-Z group demands resignation of CIAA Commissioners

A group of youths from the Gen-Z Movement Alliance submitted a pressure letter to the Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) on Tuesday morning, demanding the resignation of all sitting commissioners, including Chief Commissioner Prem Kumar Rai. The group reached the CIAA office in Tangal and officially registered the letter. The letter alleges that the appointments of Chief Commissioner Rai and other commissioners were made arbitrarily, bypassing due parliamentary procedures. “Your appointment, along with others, was made through an ordinance issued by the former government led by Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli, without a parliamentary hearing. This raises serious questions about your impartiality,” the letter states.

Diversion begins on flood-damaged BP Highway

Authorities have begun constructing a temporary diversion on the BP Highway after sections of the road were severely damaged by landslides and flooding triggered by the Roshi River during heavy rains on October 4 and 5. The diversion work commenced on Sunday after the water level in the Roshi River receded, allowing for access and initial repairs. The Division Road Office in Bhaktapur, in coordination with Roshi Rural Municipality and Namobuddha Municipality, is overseeing the construction, which involves rerouting the river and building the road above the current water level.

T20 Series: Nepal defeats Malaysia by 6 wickets

Nepal secured a six-wicket victory over Malaysia in the fourth match of the ongoing international T20 series, leveling the five-match series 2-2. Batting first after winning the toss, Malaysia posted 111 runs for the loss of five wickets in their allotted 20 overs. Mas Alisa was the standout performer for Malaysia, scoring a half-century with 56 runs off 63 balls. Nepal’s bowlers put in a disciplined performance to restrict Malaysia. Kabita Kunwar led the attack with impressive figures of 3 wickets for just 10 runs in her four-over spell. Puja Mahato and Kabita Joshi chipped in with one wicket each.

Death toll in Ilam landslide rises to 39

The death toll from the recent landslides in Ilam district has risen to 39. The body of 24-year-old Prabesh Gurung of Sandakpur-5, Ingla, Jamuna — who had gone missing after being swept away by the Ingla River — was recovered today, according to local ward member Kumar Gurung.  Prabesh had been missing since yesterday; only his sweater and hoodie were initially found. His body was discovered about 400 meters downstream from where he was last seen.

12 stranded trekkers rescued safely from Langtang region

Twelve trekkers stranded in the Langtang region have been rescued safely by the Nepali Army and other security agencies. Out of a 16-member trekking group from Bhaktapur, four went missing after being swept away by floods. The remaining members were rescued safely and brought to Syafrubesi by the Nepali Army, Nepal Police, and Armed Police Force. According to police, all rescued individuals have been sent to Kathmandu. The missing trekkers have been identified as Sangeeta Shrestha, Kisan Shrestha, Rabi Shrestha, and Sanskar Shrestha from Bhaktapur.

Province govt dispatches aid to flood and landslide victims in Ilam

The Koshi Province Government has dispatched various relief materials to support people affected by floods and landslides in Ilam district. According to Ram Prasad Acharya, Secretary at the Koshi Province Ministry of Internal Affairs and Law, the relief materials were transported via a Nepali Army helicopter, as road access to the affected areas is currently not feasible. The aid includes rice, lentils, potatoes, cooking oil, salt, turmeric, and other food items, as well as blankets, pillows, mattresses, and tarpaulin sheets, said Sadananda Bhattarai, an official from the Ministry’s Disaster Management Section.

Bishwa Prakash Sharma urges NC representatives to sign for special convention by Oct 10

Nepali Congress General Secretary Bishwa Prakash Sharma has urged party representatives to complete their signatures for the special general convention by October 10. The party’s Central Working Committee meeting is scheduled for October 12. Through a video message shared on Facebook on Tuesday, Sharma appealed to representatives to sign within the given deadline. He mentioned that some individuals have suggested waiting until after the central committee meeting to sign, but dismissed the idea, saying, “What’s the use of a garland after the wedding?” Sharma expressed confidence that holding the special convention would strengthen the party.

EC to meet party representatives on Oct 16 for March 5 polls

The Election Commission (EC) is set to hold discussions with political party representatives on October 16, ahead of the elections scheduled for March 5, 2026. According to Acting Chief Election Officer Ram Prasad Bhandari, preparations are underway to formally consult with party representatives as part of the election planning process. The Commission is preparing to hold discussions with party representatives regarding the upcoming elections.

Monsoon winds weakening across Nepal

The monsoon winds across Nepal are gradually weakening, according to the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology’s Weather Forecasting Division. Despite the weakening trend, westerly winds are still influencing many areas in the western parts of Sudurpaschim, Karnali, and Lumbini provinces, as well as a few areas in western Gandaki Province.

Gold price hits new record high

The price of gold in the Nepali market hit a new record high on Tuesday, driven by a rise in international market rates. According to the Federation of Nepal Gold and Silver Dealers’ Associations, the price of hallmark gold increased by Rs 2,300 per tola compared to the previous day. As of Tuesday, hallmark gold was traded at Rs 235,400 per tola, up from Rs 233,100 per tola on Monday. Meanwhile, the price of silver remained unchanged at Rs 2,960 per tola, the Federation said.

Nepal exporting 1,000 MW of electricity daily

Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA) Executive Director Manoj Silwal has said that Nepal is exporting an average of 1,000 megawatts (MW) of electricity daily, in addition to meeting domestic demand. Since the beginning of the current fiscal year 2025/26, electricity worth approximately NPR 15 billion has been exported. The surplus electricity is being sold to India’s Haryana and Bihar states through the Indian Energy Exchange (IEX) in both the day-ahead and real-time markets, as well as under a bilateral mid-term power purchase agreement.

Landslide disrupts transport services on Beni–Jomsom road

A landslide in Sirubari, located in Raghuganga Rural Municipality-2 of Myagdi district, has disrupted transport services along the Beni–Jomsom–Korala road, a key section of the Kaligandaki Corridor. The Beni–Jomsom road, which connects the trans-Himalayan tourist destination of Mustang to the national highway through Raghuganga and Annapurna Rural Municipalities, also serves as an important trade route linking China and India. The landslide, which occurred between the Kaligandaki River and Majhakharka in Bhagawati, severely hampered traffic flow.

Pregnant woman and newborn rescued by Army helicopter in Bhojpur

A pregnant woman and her newborn baby were rescued today from Ram Prasad Rai Rural Municipality-4 in Bhojpur by a Nepali Army helicopter. The woman, 39-year-old Nirmala Rai, and her premature baby were airlifted to the BP Koirala Institute of Health Sciences in Dharan, Sunsari, for further treatment.

Access to safe drinking water ensured for 43 households in Baglung’s Hukurthum village

A “One House, One Tap” initiative has been successfully implemented in Hukurthum, located in Badigad Rural Municipality-2, Baglung, providing access to safe drinking water for 43 households. The project was made possible through a joint investment from Badigad Rural Municipality, the Nepal Health Water (NEWA) Organization, and the voluntary labor contribution of local residents. Taps were installed in each household, significantly improving access to clean water in the village.

Landslides disrupt roads and rlectricity in four local levels of Kavrepalanchowk

Continuous rainfall over Friday, Saturday, and Sunday has triggered multiple landslides across Kavrepalanchowk, severely disrupting road connectivity and electricity supply in four rural municipalities. The affected areas include Khanikhola, Mahabharat, Roshi, and Bethanchowk rural municipalities. Due to the blackout, communication services have also been interrupted in remote parts of the district, and residents are being forced to wait several days for road access to be restored. Major roadways connecting to these rural municipalities have been blocked by landslides.

Pakistan’s PM offers condolences over flood and landslide losses in Nepal

Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has extended his condolences to Nepal following the recent devastation caused by floods and landslides. In a message shared today on the social media platform X, Prime Minister Sharif expressed deep sorrow over the loss of lives and damage resulting from the disasters. He offered heartfelt sympathies to the families of the victims and acknowledged the gravity of the situation. “In this difficult time, the Government of Pakistan and its people stand in solidarity with the Government of Nepal and the Nepali people,” he stated.

EV microbus accident injures 16 in Makwanpur

Sixteen people were injured in an EV microbus accident at Harami Chowk, Ward 4 of Bagmati Rural Municipality, Makwanpur, along the Madan Bhandari Highway early this morning. The microbus (registration number M.P. 02-001 Ja 0072), en route from Sindhuli to Hetauda, collided with a motorcycle (Na 5 Pa 5558) that was entering the highway from an inner road. The impact caused the microbus to lose control and plunge approximately 15 feet into a ravine.

Farmers worried as ripe paddy stuck in dields due to adverse weather

Farmers in Sudurpaschm Province are increasingly concerned as ripe and mature paddy remain unharvested in the fields due to adverse weather conditions. The paddy, planted between the last week of June and July, is now ready for harvest. However, continued rainfall and cloudy skies have prevented timely harvesting. “The paddy should have been harvested two weeks ago. It’s ripe and hanging in the fields, but due to the risk of rain, we haven’t been able to bring it in,” said Bir Bahadur Rana, a farmer from Dhangadhi.

Political uncertainty hits stock market, NEPSE plunges by 58 points

Political uncertainty has weighed heavily on Nepal’s stock market, with the Nepal Stock Exchange (NEPSE) index dropping by 58.55 points on Tuesday, the first trading day after the Dashain holidays. The NEPSE index closed at 2,604.96 points, with a total turnover of Rs 4.62 billion. Market capitalization fell by 2.19 percent alongside the decline.

Employees’ protest at SEBON continues for 15 days, services remain halted

Employees at the Securities Board of Nepal (SEBON) have continued their protest for the 15th consecutive day on Tuesday, bringing all services to a halt. The protest began after the Ministry of Finance decided to dissolve SEBON’s Employee Welfare Fund and Security Fund. On Ashwin 2, the ministry had directed SEBON to immediately revoke the Employee Welfare Fund Procedure 2071 and the Employee Security Fund (Operation and Management) Procedure 2075.
