487 cooperatives found inoperative in Koshi Province



JHAPA: A total of 487 cooperatives have been found inoperative in Koshi Province, according to the Koshi Province Cooperative Registrar and Training Office.

Jhapa district has the highest number of idle cooperatives at 131, followed by Morang with 67, Sunsari with 62, Ilam with 47, and both Udayapur and Tehrathum with 26 each.

Similarly, Okhaldhunga and Panchthar each have 21 inoperative cooperatives, while Sankhuwasabha has 13. Khotang, Bhojpur, and Dhankuta have 17 each, and Taplejung has 10. In Solukhumbu, 12 cooperatives have been identified as non-functional.

The list was prepared in accordance with the Province Cooperatives Act, 2076, and the Cooperative Operation, Monitoring and Auditing Standard, 2078. The purpose of the listing is to update cooperative records and begin the process of canceling the registration of inactive institutions.

According to Monitoring and Auditing Officer Nagendra Parajuli, cooperatives found to have no property or liabilities will be formally moved into the cancellation process.

At present, there are a total of 1,075 cooperatives operating under the jurisdiction of the Koshi Province government.
