Bagmati Provincial Assembly passes FY 2082/83 budget by majority



BAGMATI: The Bagmati Provincial Assembly has passed the provincial government’s budget for the upcoming fiscal year 2082/83 with a majority vote.

During Monday’s assembly session, the Appropriation Bill 2081 and other financial proposals submitted by the provincial government were approved by majority support. The supplementary budget proposal was also endorsed and incorporated into the Appropriation Bill.

Minister for Economic Affairs and Planning, Kundanraj Kafle, had tabled the proposal to allocate funds from the Provincial Consolidated Fund for the government’s services and activities for the upcoming fiscal year. Speaker Bhuvan Kumar Pathak presented the proposal for decision, which was supported by ruling party lawmakers while opposition members voted against it.

Since the proposal received majority support, Speaker Pathak declared that both the Appropriation and Financial Bills had been passed.

Assembly members Devendra Shrestha, Prem Pulami, Ruku Chaulagain, Susma Bhujel, Urmila Kumari Lama, and Sirjana Sayaju had submitted budget cut proposals, which were discussed prior to the vote.

The budget for FY 2082/83 amounts to Rs 67.47 billion. Lawmakers had presented their views on the budget on Sunday and Monday, while departmental ministers responded to the questions raised.
