PM Oli briefs House on diplomatic wins, LDC advocacy in Spain

KATHMANDU: Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli on Monday addressed the House of Representatives to inform lawmakers about Nepal’s participation and achievements at the Fourth International Conference on Financing for Development, held in Seville, Spain.

Taking time during the House session, PM Oli said that the global event contributed significantly to enhancing international partnerships in economic diplomacy and accelerating progress toward the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

He said Nepal used the platform to advocate for just and inclusive economic and social development, especially on behalf of Least Developed Countries (LDCs).

PM Oli had previously informed the House on June 28 about the objectives of his visit. He departed on the same day and returned on July 4.

During the conference, he led the LDC group and highlighted Nepal’s aspirations to graduate to a developing country by 2026, expressing confidence that global partnerships would support this transition.

He noted that Nepal has projected itself as a responsible and capable member of the international community.

“Expectations regarding development financing, both formal and informal, and climate financing were raised. We articulated the priorities of development partnerships and positioned Nepal as a country committed to advancing economic diplomacy and attracting foreign investment,” PM Oli said.

The Prime Minister also chaired a meeting of the LDCs, led side events including roundtable discussions, and reaffirmed Nepal’s leadership role within the group of 44 LDCs, showcasing Nepal’s growing diplomatic capabilities.

In addition, PM Oli informed the House that he met with Egyptian Prime Minister Dr. Mostafa Kamal Madbouly during the visit and requested continued support in securing the release of Bipin Joshi, a Nepali youth from Kanchanpur who was abducted by Hamas in Israel last year.

“While thanking Egypt for the efforts made so far, I have urged continued support in securing Bipin Joshi’s release,” PM Oli said, adding that the meeting also covered a range of bilateral interests and concerns between Nepal and Egypt.
