CPN-UML leaders advocate for people-centric budget

KATHMANDU: Senior leaders of the ruling CPN-UML held discussions on key priorities for the upcoming fiscal year 2025/26 budget, emphasizing the need for a people-focused approach.

During a meeting held today at the party’s central office in Chyasal, Lalitpur, top UML leaders proposed that the next budget be designed with the public’s interests at its core, according to UML Central Office Secretary Dr. Bhisma Adhikari.

Party Vice-Chairpersons Ishwor Pokhrel, Yubaraj Gyawali, Bishnu Prasad Paudel, Asta Laxmi Shakya, and Guru Baral, along with senior leaders like Prithvi Subba Gurung and Padma Aryal, suggested that the budget prioritize strengthening domestic production and advancing national self-sufficiency.

They also stressed the importance of investment in agriculture, industry, and infrastructure development.

Dr. Adhikari noted that Prime Minister and UML Chair KP Sharma Oli was not present at the meeting. He added that this session followed the party’s May 4 secretariat meeting, where not all members were able to share their input due to time limitations.
