HoR session: Lawmakers urge govt action on pressing issues

KATHMANDU: Lawmakers raised a range of contemporary concerns during the ‘urgent time’ of today’s meeting of the House of Representatives, drawing the government’s attention to several pressing matters.

Mahesh Kumar Bartaula urged the government to ensure immediate medical treatment for 10 individuals injured in a Bolero jeep accident in Raksirang, Makawanpur earlier today. He noted that the condition of six of the victims is critical.

Madhav Sapkota called on the Speaker to direct the government to conduct a thorough investigation into allegations of corruption involving the Securities Board, where an Initial Public Offering (IPO) was reportedly halted due to demands for commissions.

Yogendra Mandal raised concern over a displaced family still living in a madrasa shelter after losing their home—and a young daughter—in a house fire on March 18. He demanded proper rehabilitation arrangements.

Thakur Prasad Gaire called for clarity on the status of the Non-Resident Nepali Association (NRNA), amid reports that a new executive committee was formed before the current committee’s term had ended.

During the special hour, Janata Samajbadi Party MP Ranju Kumari Jha urged the government to allocate funds in the upcoming fiscal budget to upgrade the stadium in Rajbiraj, Saptari. Emphasizing that 70 districts are actively producing national and international athletes, she also proposed the establishment of a cricket research center in Rajbiraj.

Janamat Party lawmaker Abdul Khan highlighted the recurring human-wildlife conflict in Bardiya, which has led to monthly casualties. He called on the government to take concrete steps to resolve the issue. He also emphasized the need for conservation of the region’s black buck population and requested budget allocations for ventilator-equipped hospitals, transportation infrastructure, and support for farmers in the district.

Rekha Yadav of the Janata Samajbadi Party Nepal stressed the importance of promoting domestic agricultural production and ensuring pesticide-free food. She also demanded that the government establish mechanisms for testing the quality of imported agricultural goods.

Additionally, Loktantrik Samajbadi Party (LSP) lawmaker Sarbendra Nath Shukla reaffirmed Nepal’s commitment to a non-aligned foreign policy.

Given global changes, he advocated for a cooperative policy framework to combat terrorism and called for its effective implementation.
