KATHMANDU: The House of Representatives (HoR) will continue deliberations on the government’s policies and programs today. The HoR will convene at 11 am.
During Tuesday’s session, Members of Parliament (MPs) from various political parties provided their feedback and comments on the annual policy and program for the fiscal year 2082/083 presented by the government.
MPs urged the government to address several urgent issues during today’s parliamentary session, particularly during the Emergency Hour.
Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) lawmaker Dr. Swarnim Wagle criticized the government’s recently unveiled policies and programs, saying they lacked enthusiasm, excitement, and a clear sense of purpose.
Wagle remarked that the government appeared disconnected from the gravity of the current national situation.
“It feels like you don’t even recognize your own strength,” he said. “There is no enthusiasm. There is no excitement. There should be a grand purpose. When facing an economic crisis of this scale, what has this experiment produced? Almost nothing.”
Referring to the 7-point agreement that laid the foundation for the current ruling coalition, Wagle noted that its commitment to good governance and anti-corruption has turned into a mockery.
Maoist Center Secretary and Member of the House of Representatives Devendra Poudel also criticized the government’s newly announced policies and programs as traditional and repetitive.
Speaking during Tuesday’s meeting on the annual policies and programs for fiscal year 2082/83 BS, Poudel remarked that several initiatives mentioned this year—including public policy flow, social justice, student employment for 20 hours a week, citizen apps, online tax systems, digital infrastructure, cyber security, Digital Nepal, and reforms in the banking sector—were already part of last year’s programs and had merely been copied without innovation.
He emphasized that the policies and programs should demonstrate a firm commitment to nation-building and criticized the budget for failing to support comprehensive national development.
Similarly, lawmaker Ranjita Shrestha of Nagarik Unmukti Party, called for an impartial investigation into the April 30 arrest of Resham Chaudhary, leader of the Nagarik Unmukti Party.
Similarly, Kantika Sejuwal drew the government’s attention to the case of Dipraj Bhandari, 26, from Sumli village in Chhayanath Municipality-14, Mugu district, who has been stranded in the United Arab Emirates for the past three months while working abroad.
Thakur Prasad Gaire urged the government to expedite the completion of the federal parliament building currently under construction within the Singha Durbar premises.
Purna Bahadur Gharti Magar expressed concern that allocated budgets for district headquarters remain unspent, while Manish Jha called on the government to ensure greater participation of women in the cabinet.
