Nepal receives Rs 763 billion in remittances in six months

KATHMANDU: The country has received Rs 763.08 billion in remittances during the first six months of the current fiscal year, according to the Ministry of Finance.

In its mid-term review report, the Ministry of Finance stated that remittance inflows increased by 4.1 percent during the review period, compared to the same period last year.

However, remittance inflows had risen by 22.2 percent in the same period of the previous year.

Additionally, net secondary income, also known as net transfers, reached Rs 832.76 billion during the review period, marking an increase of 4.2 percent.

In contrast, net transfers had increased by 21.1 percent during the same period last year.

The Ministry also reported that the number of Nepalis receiving first-time approvals for foreign employment stands at 230,439, reflecting an increase of 11.7 percent.

Meanwhile, 162,628 individuals received approval for re-entry, showing a rise of 21.4 percent compared to the same period of the previous fiscal year.

According to the Ministry, the balance of payments during the review period showed a surplus of Rs 249.26 billion, down from a surplus of Rs 273.52 billion in the same period last year.
