KATHMANDU: The ruling CPN-UML has expressed optimism about political stability following the formation of a coalition government with the Nepali Congress.

During its three-day Central Committee meeting held at the party’s central office in Chyasal, Lalitpur, the UML concluded that the joint government was formed with the objectives of safeguarding national interests, achieving political stability, revitalizing the economy, promoting good governance, and fostering development and prosperity.

The meeting emphasized that the current government, comprising seven parties under the leadership of major political forces, carries the historical responsibility of fulfilling public aspirations for sustainable peace, good governance, development, and prosperity envisioned by the Constitution.

“The meeting hopes that the trust and understanding among ruling parties will strengthen further and that this government will capitalize on the historic opportunity to revitalize the economy, ensure good governance, achieve development goals, and secure political stability,” the UML stated in its 14-point agenda. “The CPN-UML is committed to contributing in every way possible to the implementation of this consensus and the success of the government.”

The UML highlighted that despite challenges such as armed conflict, prolonged transitions, earthquakes, and pandemics, Nepal has made significant achievements over the past 35 years.

However, challenges like sluggish development, low economic growth, unemployment, and dependency persist.

Reaffirming its commitment to building a socialist-oriented state by fostering national capital and an independent economy, the UML stated, “The party calls for collective participation in the campaign for socio-economic transformation and prosperity, with confidence that the national aspiration of a prosperous Nepal and happy Nepali will be achieved.”

The meeting also expressed concern over youth migration, driven by a lack of opportunities and the inability to utilize existing resources within the country.

The UML urged the government to create an environment that encourages youth entrepreneurship, promotes self-employment, and ensures farmers’ rights while eliminating middlemen’s exploitation and protecting domestic agricultural production.

On corruption, the party praised the government’s positive steps toward controlling corruption but stressed the need to empower state institutions involved in investigation, prosecution, and adjudication with adequate authority and resources.

The UML called for the swift investigation and resolution of all corruption cases, ensuring justice and accountability.

The meeting also urged the government to review the implementation of the Constitution, identify its strengths and weaknesses, and initiate amendments through broad consensus to preserve its progressive features and ensure political stability.

Recognizing global challenges like misinformation, disinformation, and fake news, the UML called for stronger regulatory mechanisms while ensuring press freedom and freedom of expression.

It also urged the party to effectively use information technology to share its achievements with the public and counter malicious propaganda.

The meeting highlighted the delayed rehabilitation and reconstruction efforts for earthquake victims in Jajarkot and Rukum West, as well as those affected by floods, landslides, and inundation in Bagmati Province and other areas.

The UML demanded immediate disbursement of remaining relief installments and expedited reconstruction efforts for affected regions.

Additionally, the party called for effective monitoring and regulation of markets to ensure the supply of essential goods, control inflation, and curb black market activities and adulteration.
