Oli warns against airing party grievances publicly: Speak at meetings, not on the streets

KATHMANDU: Chair of the ruling CPN-UML, KP Sharma Oli, has urged party members to address internal dissent within party meetings, warning against making public statements or protests about internal matters.

Speaking at the closing session of the party’s eighth Central Committee meeting on Tuesday, Oli emphasized that disciplinary action would be taken against those who criticize the party in public forums.

UML Publicity Department Chief Rajendra Gautam, briefing journalists after the three-day meeting, quoted Oli as saying there are no ideological or organizational factions within the party.

“The Chair clearly stated there is no factionalism in UML, either ideological or organizational,” Gautam said. “He urged members to express concerns boldly during meetings and criticized attempts to influence public opinion by taking party matters to the streets.”

Oli also reiterated that party members should not fall prey to baseless allegations about internal divisions.

In his address, Oli provided detailed reasons for the expulsion of former Vice-Chair Bhim Rawal and the suspension of two other leaders. “The Chair elaborated on the decisions regarding two female leaders’ suspensions and Bhim Rawal’s expulsion, outlining the reasons in detail,” Gautam said.

Regarding Standing Committee member Dr. Binda Pandey and Central Committee member Usha Kiran Timalsina, Oli pointed out their repeated public criticism of party decisions, including statements made even before receiving land from Min Bahadur Gurung.

“The issue of the land donation was coincidental,” Gautam clarified, referring to Oli’s remarks. “Both leaders had publicly opposed party decisions and leadership multiple times before that incident.”

Oli warned that members who breach party discipline and take internal matters to the public domain would face strict consequences, reaffirming the importance of internal unity and adherence to party principles.
