KATHMANDU: The Supreme Court has directed the submission of audio-visual materials of remarks made by Nepal Bar Association Chairperson Gopal Krishna Ghimire regarding the judiciary at a public event.

Hearing a contempt of court case against Ghimire, the Supreme Court on Tuesday ordered the presentation of the audio-visual evidence of his statements.

A joint bench of Justices Nahakul Subedi and Abdul Aziz Musalman issued the order, instructing that the audio and video materials of Ghimire’s remarks during the program organized by the Kathmandu District Court Bar Unit on Ashoj 11, 2081 BS, be submitted for review.

The court also directed that the audio-visual materials be presented to Ghimire for identification and verification before inclusion in the case file.

The court’s order stated:
“Since the written response by the defendant (Ghimire) references remarks made during the program organized by the Kathmandu District Court Bar Unit on Ashoj 11, 2081 BS, the audio-visual recording/documentation of the program must be obtained from the organizing Bar Unit, shown to the defendant, verified, and submitted as part of the case file in accordance with due process.”

The case was filed by Supreme Court Deputy Registrar Govinda Prasad Ghimire, who sought contempt of court proceedings against the Bar chairperson for his remarks.

Meanwhile, the Nepal Bar Association has called for the withdrawal of the case against Ghimire.
